Matthew Lee (Italië)
Tribute to Jerry Lee Lewis

Matthew Lee was born on 6 January 1982. Since his childhood, he showed great
musical qualities and, at the age of 11, he began to attend the Conservatoire,
where he quickly learnt the basics of piano technique, by playing classical music.
Nevertheless, this was not his way. He got to know rock ’n’ roll by listening to
the LPs of his father, who is a musician as well. He used to listen to Elvis Presley‘s
recordings when he was literally captured by the American musician Jerry Lee
Lewis, who definitely caught his attention. Soon afterwards, he began to play
with
a group of friends. They played together for more than one year.
He then decided to form a professional group - the Killers – of which he still is
front-man and leader.

Matthew Lee is a singer and magic rock ‘n’ roll piano player, inspired to
Jerry Lee Lewis’ style. He is able to offer his audiences a special and unique show. His gritty unmistakable voice and his ability soon brought him to tread the boards of the most important theatres throughout Italy.
Thanks to his extraordinary abilities and charisma, he was called as a guest on the famous Italian TV program Domenica In…, hosted by Carlo Conti and Mara Venier. Immediately afterwards, he was invited by Italian host Paolo Limiti to perform on his afternoon-program Ci vediamo in tv, where he achieved a personal success. In 2003, he received in Ancona the Calamo Prize for modern music. He continued being hosted on Italian TV. The Italian host and musician Renzo Arbore enjoyed his performance severaltimes and was so enthusiastic that invited him as a guest on his night TV program Speciale per me ovvero meno siamo meglio stiamo, broadcast on 7 May 2005, on Rai 1.

In 2005, he started touring the most important Italian clubs, including
The Place in Rome, Le Scimmie in Milan, Barfly in Ancona, Naima in Forlì and First Floor Rock in Pescara. During summer 2006, he took part to many important festivals, including the San Severino Marche Blues Festival. On that occasion, he opened the festival performing before an audience of 1.500 enthusiastic people, who came notwithstanding a non-stop rainy day. On that same festival, many other important artists performed, such as Eric Burdon, Incognito, Funk Off, Brian Auger, Eugenio Finardi etc… He also opened the Aquilia Blues Festival and Colonnella Blues Festival in 2005 in Abruzzo. Every summer, he is invited to perform at the Jamboree Festival in Senigallia (An), which gathers thousands of rock ’n’ roll and rockabilly fans from all over Europe.
The latest important event to which Matthew took part was the New Year’s Concert in Rome, with 150.000 participants. During a night devoted to rock ‘n’ roll music, he performed together with Lillo e Greg, Max Gazzè, Little Tony, etc…

In November 2006, Matthew released his first
solo-album “Shake”, produced by the Italian band Nomadi and recorded in their studios. The artistic director of this album was the Nomadi’s guitarist, Cico Falzone, which also recorded some of the guitar tracks. This important collaboration brought Matthew to frequently open the concerts of this well-known Italian band.

In December 2006, Red Ronnie
(who has always appreciated Matthew’s qualities) invited him to perform at the Motor Show in Bologna, in a stand called “Miti della Musica” (The Music’s Myths). Thanks to the success obtained during this show, Matthew was invited twice to perform at the historical place Roxy Bar, where he also shot a video-clip that will be included in the forthcoming DVD ROXY BAR .
Matthew Lee is currently on tour to promote his new album.
